1.D 由not easy living with them (their parents)(孩子觉得与父母生活在一起不易)与difficult to live withteenagers(父母觉得与十几岁的孩子生活在一起很难)可知,孩子与父母有“相似的”感受。

4. B 由上文提到的收拾房间之类的事,应是housework(家务活)。

5. C 由后面的not cleaning up their room or refusing to do theshopping可知,这里应是dropping the towel in the bathroom,一起为blamethem的原因。

12. A 由下文中的Communication is a two-wayprocess可知,此处填communication。

13. D 由but可知,要选与lend an ear to(=listen to倾听)相对的talk。

Last year, my brother and I went to Miami for a vacation. Some ofmy friends who had been there before said____16____ was a wonderfulholiday destination. Before we went, we had planned for months. When the day came, we were ready.

We ____18____(tell)that ourrooms hadn’t been reserved for that week, ____19____ for the weekafter. I didn’t understand ____20____ this would happen and mycredit card had already been charged____21____the reservation. What’s worse, thehotel had been fully booked. When we were wondering what to do, themanager came out. She was ____22____(surprise)helpful. Sheapologized for the mistake and gave us a spare VIP room on____23____top floor. We had never stayed in suchan amazing room, and we weren’t charged extra.

The next day, my brother and I went to the beach ____24____wewatched some people play volleyball. We got alittle____25____(sunburn),but the day had been so relaxing that wedidn’t mind.

18. were told 由句意或tell sb.sth.

19. but 这是考虑not…but…

21. for 因charge…for…

24. where 先行词是地点the beach且在定语从句中作状语,故填where (=on which =and on thebeach =and there)。

A

Samuel Osmond is a 19-year-old law student from Cornwall, England. He never studied the piano. However, he can play very difficultmusical pieces by musicians such as Chopin and Beethoven just a fewminutes after he hears them. He learns a piece of music bylistening to it in parts. Amazed that he remembered this long and difficult piece of musicand played it perfectly, his teachers say Samuel is unbelievable. They say his ability is very rare, but Samuel doesn’t even realizethat what he can do is special. Samuel wanted to become a lawyer asit was the wish of his parents, but music teachers told him heshould study music instead. Now, he studies law andmusic.

Samuel can’t understand why everyone is so surprised. “I grew upwith music. My mother played the piano and my father played theguitar. About two years ago, I suddenly decided to start playingthe piano, without being able to read music and without having anylessons. It comes easily to me ---I hear the notes and can bearthem in mind---each and every note,” says Samuel.

Recently, Samuel performed a piece during a special event at hiscollege. The piece had more than a thousand notes. The audience wasimpressed by his amazing performance. He is now learning a piecethat is so difficult that many professional pianists can’t play it.Samuel says confidently, “It’s all about super memory---I guess Ihave that gift.”

However, Samuel’s ability to remember things doesn’t stop withmusic. His family says that even when he was a young boy, Samuelheard someone read a story, and then he could retell the story wordfor word.

Samuel is still only a teenager. He doesn’t know what he wants todo in the future. For now, he is just happy to play beautiful musicand continue his studies.

However, he can play very difficult musicalpieces by musicians such as Chopin and Beethoven just a few minutesafter he hearsthem可知选D。

由第二段最后两句 “Samuel wanted to become alawyer as it was the wish of his parents, but music teachers toldhim he should study music instead. Now, he studies law andmusic”可知选B,Samuel按照父母的意愿是想做律师的,而不是做音乐家。

Samuel can’t understand why everyone is sosurprised和第三四句 “I suddenly decided to start playing the piano, without being able to read music and without having any lessons. Itcomes easily to me ---I hear the notes and can bear them inmind---each and every note”可知,他不用看音符就能演奏钢琴,故选C。

Samuel says confidently,“It’s all about super memory---I guess I have thatgift.”

B

It was a cold winter day. A woman drove up to the Rainbow Bridgetollbooth (收费站). “I’m paying for myself, and for the six carsbehind me,” she said with a smile, handing over seven tickets. Oneafter another, the next six drivers arriving at the tollbooth wereinformed, “Some lady up ahead already paid your fare.”

It turned out that the woman, Natalie Smith, had read something ona friend’s refrigerator: “Practice random kindness and senselessacts of beauty.” The phrase impressed her so much that she copiedit down.

Judy Foreman spotted the same phrase on a warehouse wall far awayfrom home. When it stayed on her mind for days, she gave up and drove all the way back to copy it down. “I thoughtit was beautiful,” she said, explaining why she’d taken to writingit at the bottom of all her letters, “like a message from above.”Her husband, Frank, liked the phrase so much that he put it up onthe classroom wall for his students, one of whom was the daughterof Alice Johnson, a local news reporter. Alice put it in thenewspaper, admitting that though she liked it, she didn’t knowwhere it came from or what it really meant.

Two days later, Alice got a call from Anne Herbert, a woman livingin Marin. It was in a restaurant that Anne wrote the phrase down ona piece of paper, after turning it around in her mind fordays.

“Here’s the idea,” Anne says. “Anything you think there should bemore of, do it randomly.” Her fantasies include painting theclassrooms of shabby schools, leaving hot meals on kitchen tablesin the poor part of town, and giving money secretly to a proud oldlady. Anne says, “Kindness can build on itself as much as violencecan.”

The acts of random kindness spread. If you were one of thosedrivers who found your fare paid, who knows what you might havebeen inspired to do for someone else later. Like all great events, kindness begins slowly, with every single act. Let it beyours!

31.Why did Natalie Smith pay for the six cars behind her?

A. She knew the car driverswell.B. She wanted to show kindness.

C. She hoped to pleaseothers.D. She had seven tickets.

32.Judy Foreman copied down the phrase because she_________.

A. thought it was beautifully written

B. wanted to know what it really meant

C. decided to write it on a warehouse wall

D. wanted her husband to put it up in the classroom

33.Who came up with the phrase according to the passage?

A. Judy Foreman. B. NatalieSmith. C.Alice Johnson. D. AnneHerbert.

34.Which of the following statements is closest in the meaning to theunderlined sentence above?

A. Kindness and violence can change the world.

B. Kindness and violence can affect one’s behavior.

C. Kindness and violence can reproduce themselves.

D. Kindness and violence can shape one’s character.

35.What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A. People should practice random kindness to those inneed.

B. People who receive kindness are likely to offer it toothers.

C. People should practice random kindness to strangers theymeet.

D. People who receive kindness are likely to pay it back to thegiver.

由第三段第三句“I thought it was beautiful,” she said, explaining why she’d taken to writing it at the bottom of all herletters可知,选A。

本题是问“谁想出这句话来的”,由第四段中的 “It was in a restaurant that Annewrote the phrase down on a piece of paper”可知,是AnneHerbert想出这句话来的。

C

I wouldbe going to a small village near Abuja, Nigeria. Where? What?Nigeria? I had no idea. But I was about to find out.

After completing my training, I was sent to the village that wassmall and desperately in need of proper accommodation. Though thelocal villagers were poor, they offered their homes, hearts, andfood as if I were their own family. I was asked to lead a smallteam of local people in building a new schoolhouse. For the nextyear or so, I taught in that same schoolhouse. But I sometimesthink I learned more from my students than they did fromme.

Sometime during that period, I realized that all those things thathad seemed so strange or unusual to me no longer did, though I didnot get anywhere with the local language, and returned to theUnited States a different man. The Lighthouse Project had changedmy life forever.

Scientists today are making greater effort tostudy ocean currents (洋流). Most do it using satellites and otherhigh-tech equipment. However, ocean expert Curtis Ebbesmeyer doesit in a special way --- by studying movements of random floatinggarbage. A scientist with many years’ experience, he started thistype of research in the early 1990s when he heard about hundreds ofathletic shoes washing up on the shores of the northwest coast ofthe United States. There were so many shoes that people weresetting up swap meets to try and match left and right shoesto sell or wear.

Ebbesmeyer found out in his researches that the shoes — about60,000 in total — fell into the ocean in a shipping accident. Hephoned the shoe company and asked if they wanted the shoes back. Asexpected, the company told him that they didn't. Ebbesmeyerrealized this could be a great experiment. If he learned when andwhere the shoes went into the water and tracked where they landed,he could learn a lot about the patterns of oceancurrents.

The Pacific Northwest is one of the world's best areas forbeachcombing(海滩搜寻) because winds and currents join here, and as aresult, there is a group of serious beachcombers in the area.Ebbesmeyer got to know a lot of them and asked for their help incollecting information about where the shoes landed. In a year hecollected reliable information on 1, 600 shoes. With this data, heand a colleague were able to test and improve a computer programdesigned to model ocean currents, and publish the findings of theirstudy.

As the result of his work, Ebbesmeyer has become known as thescientist to call with questions about any unusual objects foundfloating in the ocean. The money was in fact her life savings. She could save such a largeamount of money because she lived a vey simple life. She neverlearned to drive, and when she wanted to go somewhere, she justwalked. She never flew to anywhere till the donation(捐赠) and in 50years she had been out of the South only once.

Version1:

Oseola McCarty was a laundrywoman for more than 75 years. Sheearned a few dollars each time. But she donated$150,000 which was her life savings to help the students who neededfinancial help.

I think her behavior is worth praising and very unselfish. Everyoneshould help others in need. But how much to donate should be basedon our actual situation. The $150,000 is very helpful to thestudents who have financial problems. They can buy many things theyneed as other students. And they may be more grateful and kinder. Therefore, it’s more likely for them to help others in thefuture.

If I am going to give donations, I will choose students too. Theyare in the most important period in their life. They need to get along education. They have to buy a lot of books, pencil-cases,pens, erasers and so on, which will certainly cost a lot. They aregrowing up rapidly, which needs a lot of nutrition. If they don’thave enough money, they can’t eat enough food and take in enoughenergy. In a word, money is very important to students.(189words)
